46 North is a wooden 36’ Cape Islander custom built in 2000 by Clarence Heisler & Son Ltd. in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. Her first owners wanted a luxury, sea-worthy boat and sought out Cecil Heilser (a master of his craft) after interviewing numerous boat builders on the Eastern Coast.
46 North spent approximately the first 10 years of her life in fresh water in the Great Lakes of Michigan. The second owner did not maintain her properly (perhaps not understanding the needs of a wooden boat) and wooden aspects of the boat were neglected. Some attempts to make repairs can be seen but were not done properly. Some areas of rot need major attention but her bones are solid. The diesel is in impeccable condition along with all other mechanical systems. The engine room is spotless!
46 North has journeyed back to Mahone Bay for a restoration. Though Cecil has since retired, he will be keeping an eye on her to make sure she is brought back to life properly.
Powered by a 140 horsepower American Diesel and pushed along by a 4 blade propeller, 46 North’s home port will be in Rockport, MA. She will be cruising through the salt water in 2018! The Great Loop is also on the radar!
